Hi Girls
Well after TTC for what seems like decades!!! We were referred for fertility tests at the request of my rheumatologist.
An ultrasound scan found a polyp in my womb so I am now on the waiting list for removal, to say I am scared is an understatement!!! I know it's a simple procedure but as i used to be a Sister on a surgical ward I am petrified of general anaesthetic!
Also I'm feeling a little bit sorry for myself, after the diagnoses of RA I just wanted something to be simple and go right for usSad
Has anyone had this procedure??

hi Claire,

feel a bit daft posting in the Conception Forum as i'm 57 .. lol LOL

but yes i have had 2 bouts of Polyps removed ... the last lot 2 and half years ago, but in the end due to other problems i ended up having a full Hysterectomy.

don't panic !! it was just something that had to be done for me as i had other problems.

i didn't have a General Anesthetic either times, it was done when i was fully awake and actually it wasn't painful just more scary.

but after the procedure i walked out within half an hour.

of course i had a General Anesthetic once i had to have the Hysterctomy and i was very scared but it's amazing what will power you find when needed.

i'm so sorry you are having problems trying to conceive ... hopefully once the Polyps is removed things will happen for you.

keep us posted,

Suzanne x

Thanks Suzanne
That's reassuringBigGrin I went for a pre-op assessment and they only talked about a general, i will ask about other options.
I have to have some dye through my "tubes" and laparoscopy so maybe that's why they have only said GA
Again Thanks, i'll keep you posted

Hello Claire

So sorry that you are feeling down and scarred. I do hope all goes well for
you.

I had one removed over 10 yrs ago and like Suzanne it was local anesth
and did not hurt, but your mind does run round in circles doesn't ?

Good luck

Claire

I am sorry you are having trouble on top of your RA. Infertility treatment has come on leaps and bounds in the last 20 years. I went through three years of it and now have a bouncing 14 year old. I had to have the laproscopic investigation and they found I had poly cystic ovaries and adhesions. It was a long three years of trying and then low and behold there she was. It was quite ironic when I found out I had infertility problems. I had spent years trying not to get pregnant during my previous relationships and in the early years of my marriage, then when I wanted to we hit a brick wall.

I also hate general anaesthetics but again they are introducing new drugs all the time to stop sickness etc. As they say sometimes knowledge is a dangerous thing if you have been involved first hand.

I wish you well with your operation and hope that everything goes well for you.

Jackie

Hi Claire,

I too have had this done, and there was no one more scared than me. I was absolutely petrified, I have never had anything needing an general anesthetic before. I was so worked up and scared, and you no what it will be over before you know it. My husband got to come down with me to be anesthetised and about 15-20 minutes later I opened my eyes and asked when I was going and it was all over.

I no this wont help much, cause when your scared nothing anyone says really helps. But really it was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Look forward the sooner its done the sooner you can try for the baby you so much want.

Keep your chin up things will be fine,

Take care, Lorna x Smile

Hi claire,
i had a general last year to have polyp removed, it all went very well, took about 20-30mins, stayed on the ward for a couple of hours afterwards then back home. Felt fine the next day, bit of an aching feeling but nothing terrible. I too was so scared as would rather do anything than have a general but to be honest it was fine and if/when i ever need another one i would not be half as scared as i used to be. Alot of woman go on to conceive straight after a polyp removal so will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you Smile
Best wishes

hope it goes well for you- if you are on steroid you will probably need double the dose the day of the op.
